What is Raise Boring?
Raise Boring is a method of shaft excavation, inclined or vertical, where the Raise Bore Machine drills a pilot hole into an existing mine and then reams a larger diameter shaft from the lower level to either the surface or another underground level eliminating the need for explosives.
To date, Frontier-Kemper has pulled more than 22 miles of Raise-Bored Shafts. The Herrenknecht RBR 600 VF has recently been added to our fleet of raise drills. With make-up torque of 553,171 ft./lb. and thrust of 2,248,089 lbs., The RBR 600 is double the capacity of the 81-R.
