FKC-Lake Shore was awarded the design-build contract for two (2) Vertical Conveyor Systems for LA Metro's Purple Line Extension, Section 2 Project. The systems will be transporting tunnel muck from twin TBMs, Ruth and Harriet–each traveling 2.59 miles. Both Vertical Conveyor Systems are installed near the intersection of Constellation Blvd. and Century Park East in Los Angeles, CA. The vertical belts are FLEXOWELL® S-shape systems designed to handle 500 tons-per-hour at 138 ft. of vertical lift.

The first Vertical Conveyor transporting muck from TBM Ruth was operationally commissioned in February 2021. The second system transporting from TBM Harriet will commission shortly after.
